Notes Received his Ph.D. from UW-Madison. Primary research is on generational change in attitudes and discourses about same-sex marriage. Focuses in particular on patterns of talk that show inconsistencies between a person's age and his/her political/religious ideologies. Also studies how patterns of civic engagement in the U.S. are changing, focusing on the rise of civic recreation (the use of sports and leisure activities for fundraising purposes). Also teaches in the communication and journalism department.
