Notes Received his Ph.D. from UW-Madison. Primary research is on generational change in attitudes about same-sex marriage and on the origins of generation labels. Other research includes how patterns of civic engagement in the U.S. are changing, the power of metaphor in social science, and how the internet and social media shape political communication and news/information environments. He directs the Eau Claire Longitudinal Student Survey (ECLSS), an omnibus campus survey carried out annually to study the attitudes, opinions and experiences of UWEC students and how they change over time.
